( from the poem "Ithaca")
English translation of the above poem,
© Edmund Keeley and Philip Sherard.

Odysseus, fabled king of Ithaca, while fighting in the Troyan War,
displeased the God Poseidon and he cursed him to roam the Seas
for ten years before he could find his way home.
His desperate search for his homeland,
became a symbol of the endurance and stubborness
with which Man pursues his Ideals.
And in the final analysis, as the poet implies,
it is not the ideal that
really counts but the experience
gained while pursuing it.
